# CAPTURING SONG CONCEPTS
Exercise
Step 1: Create a new note on your phone or dedicate a page in your notebook to a section titled “Song Concepts.”Sometimes you’ll experience a story, thought, moment, or idea in your everyday life that could translate beautifully into a song. It could also be a location where a story might take place. Write these ideas down as they come to you. Don’t worry about developing them into full songs yet. Simply capture the thought, story, setting, or concept while it’s fresh. Then, whenever you find yourself without inspiration, return to this collection and explore the ideas you’ve gathered over time. Think of it as your personal library of inspiration: a place to return to whenever you need somewhere to start.
Theory
'When you get that great title or idea, you’d better have a pen in your pocket, or a miniature tape recorder handy. Be sure to write down or record it. Even those ideas that you are sure you won’t forget can easily get lost along the way – and that title or melody might have been your ticket to a Grammy!' (Blume, 2008, p. 33).
